M·Y·O Cosmetic Cases

Hollywood Emmy Awards Celebration Adventure

Hollywood Emmy Awards Celebration Adventure

Sunny skies and warm strolls along the stars on Hollywood Blvd in California. That’s where we’d like to be right now as it’s back to reality at home, our rainy version of Hollywood but in ‘RainCouver’, or Hollywood North as it’s so rightfully nicknamed.

Friday, September 7th 2018, we had the most incredible time rubbing elbows with some of Hollywood’s most well known Makeup and Hairstyle artists in the industry. Invited by Make-Up Artist Magazine, MYO Cosmetic Cases co-sponsored their Emmy Awards Celebration, celebrating Makeup and Hairstyle Artist Emmy Award nominees. This epic event was held at the historically iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, where the very first Oscars took place in 1929.

How’d we get the chance to mingle with the creative talents behind Glow, Jesus Christ Superstar, Vikings, Game of Thrones, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Westworld, Handmaids Tale and Saturday Night Live? Just to name a few.  ; )

Well, to give you the gist of it… we were introduced to Michael Key, publisher of Make-Up Artist Magazine, by local makeup artist Jen Powell (thanks Jen!!), which led us to being featured in the prestigious Make-Up Artists Magazine’s September issue in the “Product News” section, titled “Clutching Fabulous”. MYO Cosmetic Cases was then invited to sponsor their 3rd annual Emmy Award Celebration, celebrating Make-Up & Hairstyle artist nominees. We said, “YES”, of course! What a fantastic opportunity for us to meet these incredible artists, Heads Of Departments and in support of their incredible work, gift each one with a MYO Case Pro Kit. Feedback we have already been receiving from nominees includes:

  • “M·Y·O Makeup Pods are genius, pure genius!”
  • “fabulously lightweight and never pops open”
  • “fast on final touches, I love these cases!”
  • “the magnetic style sticks and secure seal, absolutely brilliant”
  • “this case is truly an answer to our makeup artist prayers… I want to let you know how much I’m loving using this case!!!”

If you’re wondering who’s writing this, let me introduce myself, I’m Jen, MYO Cosmetic Cases Social Media Coordinator. I have a passion for this industry as I also own my own Makeup and Hair freelance business, based out of Vancouver, BC. I joined the MYO Cosmetic Case team this past summer; I knew when I met Suzanne Carter, the CEO, I wanted to work with her and for MYO. Her passion and story behind her case creation got me so excited, I wanted to, no needed to, be involved.

Suzanne and her family spent weeks leading up to this event getting each MYO Case Pro Kit ready to be gifted to all the Emmy Award nominees. Yes, being a small business there is a lot of ‘all-hands-on-deck’ kind of days. We’re not even going to talk about the headache that ensued with the cases delivered on time… luckily, in the end, they all made it into the gift bags and were cozied up with our co-sponsors Bioderma, MUD Cosmetics, Ardell Cosmetics and Nigel Beauty.

In addition to attending this epic Emmy Awards event, we had time to enjoy some other fun activities while in La La Land. On our first night in LA, we settled into our Airbnb condo in Hollywood and walked just a few blocks to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. What a dreamy historical hotel! I had seen rave reviews online about their burger place, 25 Degrees, and considering we had only eaten overpriced airline snacks all day, we were ready for something drool worthy. Did it live up to its expectations? Yup! Homemade garlic mayo made my burger something I’ll never forget.

After picking up trip essentials of wine, chips and coffee, we enjoyed people watching and the pedestrian scramble as we wondered back along Hollywood Blvd to our condo. I was completely mesmerized by the endless neon lights and upbeat music cascading out of every La La Land gift shop.

The morning before the big Emmy Awards Celebration, on our list was a visit to Besame Cosmetics. When Suzanne said it was one of her ‘must see’s’, I knew I had the best travel partner and that this trip couldn’t get any better. If you don’t know Besame Cosmetics, you’ve got to check them out. This company makes reproduction vintage cosmetics. It is run by the sweetest lady, Gabriella, who is an artist herself and has taken the beauty of era’s gone by creating a line that’s not only beautiful, it’s also cruelty free! Each product has such a classy look that it’s no wonder they have a huge consumer community and Instagram following. While visiting the store, it was easy to pose for a photo with a beautiful Besame lipstick in the frame. The ladies there were so sweet and did a fabulous job of tolerating my excitement in the boutique. Thank you for all the goodies you gifted us! Speaking of, just for reading this whole blog post, we invite you to enter for a chance to win these goodies from Besame! Just pop over to our Instagram post about this blog and follow the instructions. We will do a draw November 15th for a MYO Cosmetic Case Pro Kit + a few of our favourite goodies from BESAME! We think beauty, class and organization go extremely well together.

Coming out of Besame, our eyes widened as we noticed Morphe across the street, one of us might’ve even left Morphe with a shopping bag full.

Back to our condo… time to get glammed up for the big night out at the Emmy Award Celebration! I assisted in dolling up Suzanne with her signature look of beach waves and natural fresh makeup. I used my go-to Face Atelier foundation topped off with a bit of Besame’s brightening powder, a pop of a soft coral pink hue on her cheeks. Her lips were a mix from Eve Pearl and one of my favourite lip pencils by Lise Waiter in Nude, when done, Suzanne looked like a Hollywood star.

The evening was amazing! We felt so honoured to be surrounded by the talent of Emmy Award nominated artists. Everyone had great style, and we wished we could’ve introduced ourselves to everyone that attended. The food was gourmet, cocktails divine and the legendary venue, The Spare Room, a gaming parlour and cocktail lounge, had its own bowling alley. It couldn’t get better than this, or so we thought. We ended up chatting with the uber talented hair team behind Saturday Night Live! Yup, we sure did! They were so lovely, and made us want to plan a trip to NYC to visit them. These artists are truly the magic behind the scenes. They are the ones who pull together the look that assists actors get into their character. The creations from Makeup & Hair artists play a huge role in the believability of what we see on the big screen.  Their creativity is awe inspiring. We hope the versatility and flexibility of our MYO Case Pro Kit continues to inspire their creativity.

Post Emmy Award Celebration, there was some late-night pizza and the next day, the perfect post epic event breakfast at Mel’s Dinner. This next day we had time to visit the Hollywood Museum which is filled with memorabilia from the history of American motion pictures and television, housed in the historic Max Factor Building. A must see if you’re in L.A. To cap off our day, we met the gorgeous Maxine Tatlonghari, of Vanity Girl Hollywood, for dinner at the one and only ‘The Beverly Hills Hotel’. On our way in, we said a quick hello to our friend Dany Devito and enjoyed the most delicious turkey club we’ve ever had.

Suzanne and I are grateful for the opportunity to recognize and support these artists sending them home with one of our MYO Cosmetic Case Pro Kits. We love the thought of being a key part increasing efficiency in their work day, and hopefully getting them excited about organizing and loving their kit set up that much more.
